LOVER'S LAMENT
WRITTEN BY GEOFF WILDE
On a cold winter's night, I'd learned she was gone
I cried “how can this be true, I promise that your wrong”
She set sail with another, like I'd dreamt so many times
Now I lay here mournin’, only her on my mind
Misery found me, as darkness set in
Lord, give me a reason to live, for now I don’t have anything
We carved our names into an old oak tree
But that oak tree died, just like you and me
Forever noble to her, until my last breath
I was tired of life, yet still scared of death
I loved her with a love, that wouldn’t cease
Five years a slave to her beauty, but now I am free
So bury my body, or whatever bones are left
So on nights like this, you'll hear me moanin’ I’ll bet
On my grave stone, do not write but my name
For my love I lived, and died just the same
You can still see the noose, by the hanging tree
I was sick of life, and she was sick of me
